Welcome to all students of
York St. John University!
This website is for the Student Health Centre at York St. John University. Here you can book an appointment and request a prescription. There is also lots of useful health information to cover all your medical needs!
You will obviously be aware of the financial pressure that the NHS is under. York is certainly not immune to this and both the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and York Hospital are both under considerable strain as regards their financial situation.
Another issue is that of GP recruitment. It is a struggle currently to find young GPs who wish to commit to the practice in the long-term.
Given this combination of factors we are having to look at different ways to continue to provide the service of high quality that our patients would expect.
Patient safety is the paramount consideration in everything that we do. Given the current clinical workload being spread across a smaller pool of clinical staff, we have decided to suspend the ‘extended hours' appointments that we have offered since 2007.
This will mean that we will no longer offer appointments outside of the hours 0800-1830 Monday to Friday. This will be the case from April 1st. We will be keeping the situation under review.
We would encourage all our patients to join us in discussing how we can safely deliver high quality care in the current environment. Please do join our patient participation group either by contacting reception or through our website. Any other feedback gratefully received.
York Medical Group - Petergate Surgery – Clifton Medical Practice merger will take place on 28 & 29 June 2016.
All surgeries will be unable to issue repeat prescriptions and there will be reduced appointments whilst the merge takes place. Our Online services will also be unavailable. Our IT Department will endeavour to have these services back up and running as soon as possible.
Please can you make sure you have enough medication over this period.
Thank you for your patience at this time.
York Medical Group Merger
York Medical Group, Clifton Medical Practice and Petergate Surgery would like to start working together as one larger practice from 1st July 2016
We recently conducted a survey as to what our patients thought about this and we have generated a set of FAQs for you to look at and a summary of the feedback of the proposed merger.
For Our New Students' Parents
Here is some useful information for parents of students who are registered, or wanting to register with the Student Medical Centre.
We work closely with the University to ensure the seamless care of our students. Our clinicians have a number of years experience dealing with the student population, and work closely with the university if required in certain situations.
Please be aware that appointments booked on this site are solely for students who are registered at YSJ, thank you.
The Friends and Family Test
Putting Patients First
The Friends & FamilyTest (FFT) is a feedback tool which offers patients the opportunity to provide feedback about the care and treatment they have received. This is not a traditional survey; this will be a continuous loop between our patients and staff.
The FFT questions asks if patients would recommend the services we provide and how we could improve them. This provides a mechanism to highlight both good and poor patient experience. The data is completely anonymous and is not compulsory, but is available to all patients.
If you would like to participate in the survey please

Registering with the Health Centre
If you have not already done so, please register at the Student Health Centre (BLOCK G) for all of your medical needs and advice. The services we provide are tailored specifically to students.
We have registration packs available to pick up from our surgery. You can also pre-register online.
Please do not wait until you become unwell before you register with us - we need time to get your details from your existing GP practice. You cannot book an appointment with us if you are not registered.
At times, the lines are busy; if your call is not answered immediately, please hold on and it will be answered as soon as a receptionist is available.
Campus: 01904 724775
Monkgate: 01904 206862
For routine calls, it is often a good idea to try to avoid the busiest times – early mornings and late evening – especially Mondays. In an emergency, ring the surgery and tell the receptionist the problem. It may be appropriate to take the patient straight to the nearest A&E department at York Hospital.
Have you moved house?
Please let us know if your address or mobile number has changed.
You can do this online by clicking on the link below, or pop into the surgery and fill out a change of address form. It is also helpful to let us know if your contact details have changed (such as mobile number or house number).
